Our History

The Marshall Project - St. Louis was established in January 2025 to support local media with investigative and data journalism about the criminal justice system. Our team draws support from The Marshall Project’s national team, which provides data analysis, investigative editing, multimedia assets, editorial design and administrative and fundraising assistance.

Our mission is to produce in-depth, impactful journalism that pushes for a criminal justice system that is fair, transparent, effective and humane.

The Marshall Project - St. Louis is part of The Marshall Project’s local network.

The Marshall Project’s work in St. Louis and Missouri is made possible by Missouri Foundation for Health and the Joan & John Vatterott Family Foundation.
