This position will ensure the steady growth of The Marshall Project’s audience on social media channels, with the goal of deepening the impact of our journalism. It reports to the Director of Communications.

Responsibilities include:

• Growing our audience on Facebook, Twitter, our own site, and via our email newsletters.

• Cultivating a loyal community of criminal justice experts and TMP ambassadors, with an eye to expanding our audience beyond the professionally engaged audience.

• Producing all TMP social media accounts, with the help of interns and other staffers, when available.

• Helping other TMP staffers grow their own presence on social media and communicating key audience insights to the newsroom.

• Under the direction of the Director of Technology, use analytics to tell us more about who our audience is, how they use our content and why, working closely with the director of technology.

• Under the direction of the Multimedia Editor, helping to create and promote digital-native and visual content for social media.

• Overseeing Digg and initiating other interactives with key audiences, managing comments and letters to the editor.

• Managing the relationship with any education-related outreach, such as Newsela.
